Discipline has a rich history that started with the establishment of the Sudanese Chadian Community organization in Indiana in 2003. This organization was created to address the specific needs of immigrant communities, particularly those who were refugees from Darfur and immigrants from Chad. These individuals faced numerous challenges upon arriving in their new country, including language barriers, employment difficulties, economic hardships, isolation, cultural adjustments, legal challenges, and more. The organization and its members supported newcomers and helped them navigate their new environment, despite having limited resources at their disposal. The organization relied solely on donations from the Sudanese and Chadian community members, as they were not able to access external resources due to a lack of knowledge and networking opportunities.

Unfortunately, the organization dissolved in 2012 due to a lack of resources and funding, leaving the underserved immigrant communities without a support system. This had a significant impact on the community, as the unique needs of immigrants were not being met and they struggled to access the necessary support. Language barriers and the lack of understanding regarding the needs of these immigrants made it difficult for the larger community to provide adequate assistance. The founders of Discipline, being members of the community themselves, witnessed firsthand the challenges faced by their immigrant neighbors and the sacrifices made to address community issues. The burden of limited resources had a cascading effect, leading to numerous crises and adversely impacting the youth, who often faced higher rates of crime and mental health issues.

In 2016, the community experienced a tragic loss with the deaths of three young men due to gun violence. This event prompted the founders of Discipline to take action and raise awareness of the issue. Through initiatives such as a GoFundMe campaign and contacting national organizations, they were able to raise over $20,000 to support the affected families. This experience underscored the availability of help and the willingness of people to contribute, highlighting the importance of raising awareness and expanding outreach efforts.

Drawing strength from their firsthand experiences and equipped with a profound understanding of the community's unique needs, the founders established Discipline. They recognized the importance of providing the right resources and empowering community members to take an active part in shaping their own futures. In the founders' eyes, the primary barriers to progress were the severe lack of resources and the exclusion of community members from the decision-making process. They believed that with adequate resources and active community participation, they could not only address but also resolve many of the issues that their communities face daily.
