History
Our journey began in the late 90s and early 2000s, driven by the pressing needs of Sudanese and Chadian immigrants who settled in Indiana.
In the face of significant challenges, including language barriers, navigating systems, poverty, and limited resources, our community came together and established the Sudanese Chadian Community (SCC) organization in 2003. Over time, the organization struggled to meet the increasing needs of our community, including supporting those still suffering in refugee camps in Darfur. In 2012, due to lack of funding, the organization dissolved. However, the work of our individual members and community never ceased. We continued to provide support in various forms, from medical assistance to funeral arrangements.
Recognizing the ongoing challenges and the need for sustainable resources, we established Discipline to carry on the work initiated by members of the SCC.
We firmly believe in the potential and capability of immigrants and underserved communities to address the challenges they face. We acknowledge that the difficulties they encounter primarily stem from a lack of resources and support, rather than any deficiency in ability or aspiration.
By providing these communities with the necessary support and equipping them with the right tools, we can facilitate their empowerment, allowing them to dramatically reduce the problems they encounter. This approach reinforces our conviction that everyone, given the right opportunities, can be agents of change in their communities.
